2010 Amongst The Animals: The WA2S.org Year ONE in Retrospect
December 15, 2010 - It was about this time last year that our Executive Director, Tom McPhee, announced the formation of the World Animal Awareness Society - WA2S.org. The World Animal Awareness Society is a society of people interested in what happens at the human - animal intersection. Tom just finished the Rescue Party Tour and wrapped up two television shows (Tom McPhee's Rescue Journal and Rock & Roll Dogs). It was during this time that Tom decided that he needed to spend a lot more time in this realm, independent of any television shows and independent of anyone else's agenda. The idea was to turn a lens on ourselves at the human - animal intersection where so much takes place. Where we believe we can see our own evolution.

The World Animal Awareness Society - WA2S.org, through our first two expeditions - Haiti (Jan/Feb 2010) and ALL EYES ON THE GULF (May-Sept 2010) - created substantial relationships with nearly three dozen major governmental and non-governmental (NGO) organizations at the human - animal intersection. In February, in between the Haiti and Gulf expeditions, we had the opportunity to be in Macon, Georgia to do a story on dog tethering.
The WA2S.org is the "consumer reports" of the human - animal intersection.
In April, Tom got right in the middle of the world's largest pillow fight in Union Square in NYC and followed the left-behind pillows as they made their way to shelters throughout Manhattan. We had the historic responsibility of recording animal rescuer interviews at the Hurricane Katrina 5 year Anniversary in New Orleans in August. In the fourth quarter, Tom embarked on the West Coast Swing Tour where we filmed stories in California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.
The WA2S.org has many stories from most of these expeditions yet to be edited and shared with the world. Although we have filmed these important stories, we still have the monumental task of editing these stories and creating the end productions to share. This is where we need your help. World Animal Awareness Society - WA2S.org has made deals to broadcast content we create in whole or in part with a number of shows with animals at the core.
