Help the stray dogs at risk in Houston! Hurricane Harvey is wreaking havoc on Houston and the: community, stray, abandoned and homeless dogs are paying a heavy price from this unprecedented disaster. There is no hope for paws in so many cases today.
The American Strays 2030 Project team was in Houston Texas from August 13 through August 24, 2017 for the sole purpose of quantifying the stray dog epidemic currently plaguing about 2 thirds of Houston city proper. Using open source GPS tracking software, GoPro cameras mounted to the front of the survey vehicle and 2 spotters taking pics and video to help verify the dogs being found on the streets - the team has been able to determine hundreds of dogs at risk right right now in Houston. The purpose for the American Strays K9 survey is to better understand the dynamics of the free roaming dog population in Houston, TX. The GPS data of the dogs along with the video and pics are used to help create various initiatives to help humanely solve the dog population issues. Images of the dogs are tagged with GPS data so the team can quickly locate them time after time to verify various interventions deployed actually work or to save the dogs through rescue. n most cases the dogs belong to the people who's house they are in front of or close to, so we give our partner rescues the information to help educate the owners to be better guardians. Many instances the dog is truly a homeless dog. And when the dog is truly in peril, ie, injured, nursing puppies, severe mange, etc. It's rescued asap. The WA2S Films team will be rolling out new dog rescue videos of many dogs in peril we filmed while in Houston. Here is a perfect example of a dog that would have died due to Hurricane Harvey if the WA2S had not been working with Houston rescue Forgotten Dogs of The Fifth Ward Project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rk9KtPVsnAg However, the stakes are very high now - as you can see from the video - hundreds of dogs are truly at risk outside due to the perilous circumstances created by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. We have the locations of where all these dogs should be and we can check with owners in their neighborhoods and look to rescue the dogs that are now suffering due to their new post Hurricane Harvey reality. But we need your help! You can see the value of having this type of fresh data to help keep so many animals alive. If we know about them - have identified them - we can save them!
