In this edition of The Rescuers' DNA we follow Kathy Vazquez of Yorkie Rescue Houston (https://www.facebook.com/YorkieRescueHouston) as she helps Kyri Andell and her family reunite with their pit bull puppy Sharkey who had been in the care of the Houston SPCA (HSPCA) at the Ford Center in Beaumont, TX after Hurricane Harvey. For weeks Kyri had searched for her dogs through all available channels - knowing they had ended up in HSPCA's system. Yet, due to a host of errors on the part of the HSPCA, the dogs were unable to be located until an army of independent animal rescuers chipped in to dissect all known leads and sources. It turns out a very nice family from Hutto, TX had puppy Sharkey - since taking Sharkey from the HSPCA's Ford Center facility for fear that the HSPCA would put Sharkey down because he was a Pit Bull. And it is common knowledge by the greater Texas dog rescue community, the HSPCA is a place that kills Pit Bulls.
